WHAT PEOPLE HAVE SAID
I have hundreds of testimonials that I could share with you, but here are just a few of my favourites:
JONATHAN, GRADE 12, THE FOREST HIGH SCHOOL
When I first met Jon he was disengaged from school and was struggling in both English and Maths. I began working with him half-way through year 12 where the best mark he had achieved so far that year was 32% in maths and 40% in English. In his trial exams (after 8 sessions together), he received 70% in Maths and 75% in English. This showed him what he was truly capable of and we continued together until the end of year 12. In his final exams he received a band 6 (+90%) in both subjects, and gained admission to the University course of his choice.
Here is an email I received from Jon’s mother, Tina, just before the end of the year:
“YOU ARE THE BEST TUTOR WE’VE EVER HAD, AND WE CAN BOTH SEE THIS IN JONATHON’S ATTITUDE. HE SEEMS VERY COMFORTABLE AROUND YOU. YOU HAVE BEEN A GREAT INSPIRATION FOR HIM AS HE HAS SHOWN A MORE POSITIVE ATTITUDE TOWARDS MATHS AND ENGLISH SINCE YOU CAME ON TO THE SCENE – ESPECIALLY IN HIS CLASS RESULTS AND ASSIGNMENTS.
JOHN AND I ARE SO IMPRESSED AND HAPPY WITH YOUR WORK AND WE HOPE WE CAN CALL UPON YOU IN OUR OTHER DAUGHTER’S HIGH SCHOOL YEARS. YOUR PROFESSIONALISM, PERSONALITY AND QUALITY WORKMANSHIP HAS HELPED IN ALL AREAS OF JONATHON’S TUTORING.”
TOBY, GRADE 8-12, ST PAULS CATHOLIC COLLEGE
I first encountered Toby when he was just a shy year 8 boy. He was very insecure and his lack of confidence was impacting his studies. We began working together weekly and I instantly began to see something in him change. Because someone else believed in him, he began to believe in himself, and this became evident in both his relationships and his school work.
This is a letter I received from Toby’s mother, Gwen, about a year into our time together:
“I SOUGHT TUTORING A LITTLE OVER A YEAR AGO BECAUSE MY SON HAD LOST ALL MOTIVATION AND HIS GRADES WERE DROPPING FAST. A TEACHER FROM HIS SCHOOL RECOMMENDED SEEING NIC, WHERE WE SAW HIM ONCE A WEEK ON AVERAGE. NOT A GREAT ONE FOR STUDY, MY SON NOW LOOKS FORWARD TO HIS TUTORING SESSIONS AND HIS MOTIVATION AND GRADES HAVE BOTH IMPROVED RAPIDLY. HE IS NOW MANAGING OVER 80% IN HIS SUBJECTS AND HIS TEACHERS HAVE ONLY PRAISE FOR HIM. I AM REALLY PLEASED WITH THE OUTCOME AND I WOULD RECOMMEND NIC TO ANYONE CONSIDERING TUTORING!”
GUS, GRADE 6, HARBORD PRIMARY SCHOOL
Gus came to me 6 weeks out from the Selective School exam, having decided at the last minute to attempt the test. Knowing that other students had been preparing for well over a year before the exam I began working with Gus twice a week in the lead up to the test. Although naturally talented, the first practice test we did together resulted in a total mark of just over 25%. I took him through my selective school preparation program, and he went in to the exam up against 50 other students from his school and thousands of students across the Northern Beaches. I got an ecstatic call from his Mother months later to say he had received first round acceptance – and he was the only one from his school that had!
Here is an email I received from Mel just before the exam:
“GUS HAS LOVED THE SESSIONS, AND WONDERS WHY HE CAN’T KEEP GOING WITH THEM ALL YEAR!! WE WILL DEFINITELY LET YOU KNOW HOW HE GOES – THE TEST IS THIS WEEK, BUT IT WILL BE A BIT OF A WAIT UNTIL WE GET RESULTS.
I HAD BEEN A BIT RELUCTANT TO GO DOWN THE TUTORING PATH INITIALLY, BUT GUS HAS LOVED IT, AND WE REALLY APPRECIATE THAT YOU AND HE GOT ON SO WELL AND THAT YOU HAVE ENCOURAGED HIM SO MUCH.”
And then following the results:
“NIC, YOU ARE A MIRACLE WORKER! OUT OF THE 50 KIDS AT HIS SCHOOL THAT SAT THE TEST, HE WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO GOT IN! AND I KNOW THAT SOME OF THOSE STUDENTS HAD BEEN DOING TUTORING FOR AT LEAST A YEAR BEFORE THE EXAM!
THANK YOU SO MUCH – I CAN’T SAY IT ENOUGH. HE REALLY WANTS TO CONTINUE TUTORING WITH YOU, SO WE MIGHT RESERVE OUR SPACE NOW FOR NEXT YEAR IF POSSIBLE!”
HANA, GRADE 12, FRESHWATER HIGH SCHOOL
I first started working with Hana halfway through her final year after she had been with another tutor but had failed to see any improvement. She needed help with maths and English, but also general support across the board. She didn’t really care about school and had no direction for life beyond grade 12. Her parents were very concerned that she was going to fail everything, and the constant fighting between them was a huge burden on everyone. After our first session we set some small attainable goals (like do 5 maths questions a night) which she was able to achieve. We then continued to double it until she was doing complete chapters each week. She went from failing to surpassing everyone’s expectations.
Here is an email I received from Craig, Hana’s Dad, shortly after her results were released:
JUST THOUGHT YOU’D LIKE TO KNOW THAT HANA PASSED ALL HER CLASSES, GETTING FAR HIGHER GRADES IN MATHS AND ENGLISH THAN I OR SHE THOUGHT WERE LIKELY.
I’D LIKE TO THANK YOU FOR THE EFFORT AND GUIDANCE YOU’VE GIVEN HANA PRECEDING THE EXAMS. YOUR TIME TOGETHER WAS INVALUABLE AND WE SAW HOW YOUR SUPPORT CHANGED HER ATTITUDE COMPLETELY.
SHE GAINED A LOT OF CONFIDENCE FROM THOSE MINI-WINS, AND ACTUALLY STUDIED WHICH WAS INCREDIBLE!
IT WAS A WIN FOR EVERYBODY AND CERTAINLY LESS STRESS ON ALL INVOLVED.
I WOULD BE MORE THAN HAPPY TO RECOMMEND YOUR SERVICES SHOULD ANY OF MY FRIENDS BE SEEKING TUTORING FOR THEIR CHILDREN.”
ISAAC, GRADE 11-12, PITTWATER HIGH SCHOOL
I will never forget the first session with Isaac; he wouldn’t even look at me. I had just received a text from his Mum, saying that he refused to do tutoring and they had just had a huge fight about it. Isaac had been skipping classes, not doing assessments and was just one step away from getting kicked out of school. His parents didn’t know what to do with him, so they called me and decided to give it a try. We made it through the first session, and by the end of it he was asking when I was next coming. The transformation was incredible. Of his own accord he handed his xbox over to his Mum, because he knew it was distracting him from getting work done. He went and got a job. His social life improved. But most of all, his marks did a complete 360. Where he was getting zero’s due to non-attempt, he began getting 50%, then 70% and then 90%.
Here is an email I received from Isaac’s mum, Mary-Beth:
“ISAAC ABSOLUTELY LOVES HIS SESSIONS WITH YOU – HE KEEPS ASKING ME IF HE CAN DO TWO A WEEK!
I DON’T KNOW HOW YOU DID IT. HE HAS MATURED IN TO THIS CONFIDENT NEW PERSON, AND I KNOW IT WOULDN’T HAVE HAPPENED WITHOUT YOU. THANK YOU SO MUCH – I AM VERY HAPPY TO BE A REFERRAL FOR ANYONE CONSIDERING GETTING TUTORING WITH YOU!”
